nylon patch waterproof sealing machine screw
The O-ring is positioned beneath the screw head or inside a designed sealing groove. When the screw is tightened against a compatible mating surface, the O-ring compresses to help close the gap between the screw head and assembly.
The nylon patch is applied to a selected section of the thread. It increases friction between the external and internal threads, helping reduce loosening caused by vibration, movement or repeated loading.
The nylon patch should not be presented as the primary waterproof element. Environmental sealing is mainly provided by the correctly selected and compressed O-ring or sealing washer.
How the Two Functions Work
O-Ring Sealing
The O-ring helps protect the assembly against water, dust, oil or other contaminants. Actual performance depends on the O-ring material, groove geometry, compression, mating surface, installation torque, temperature and exposure medium.
Nylon Patch Locking
The nylon patch creates prevailing torque during installation. It helps the screw resist unintended rotation without requiring a separate lock washer in suitable applications.
