We do not treat shoulder screws as standard bolts. This unique fastener works as locating pin, spacer and rotating shaft all in one piece. The smooth, thread-free shoulder takes most positioning and shear loads. Only the short threaded section does the clamping work. This practical design stabilizes gaps and reduces wobble for moving machine components.

We produce shoulder screws for automation jigs, fixture tooling, automotive linkages and compact precision instruments. We keep standard sizes in stock. We also manufacture custom versions from customer drawings or physical samples sent over.

Why the shoulder shaft makes all the difference

The polished smooth shaft right below the screw head is where all the action happens. Its diameter tolerance and surface finish directly control how smoothly parts slide or rotate.

If tolerance runs loose, assembled parts shake while moving. If too tight, parts jam during assembly. For static spacing work, h8 tolerance usually works well. For rotating pivot points, we normally suggest g6 grade. Always align shoulder tolerance with the inner hole tolerance of your mating component. There is no point paying extra for ultra-high precision if your project never really needs it.

Material choices for different working conditions

We build shoulder screws from a few different raw materials.

Carbon Steel

Carbon steel types go through heat treatment to gain higher hardness. They fit heavy-load jigs operating inside dry workshops. Surface coatings such as zinc plating, black oxide and nickel plating can be added as requested.

Stainless Steel

Stainless steel shoulder screws deliver better rust protection. SUS304 handles humid indoor spaces and occasional outdoor exposure. SUS316 performs best near coastlines or areas exposed to mild chemicals.

One thing worth noting. Stainless steel cannot match hardened carbon steel when it comes to shear strength. Double check your load requirement before picking your material.

Available head and drive options

We machine a range of head shapes to fit tight assembly spaces.

Socket head shoulder screws save vertical space, commonly used inside compact automation devices. Phillips pan head versions are simple to install and remove with regular screwdrivers. Torx drive spreads torque evenly and lowers the chance of tool slip.

Verify head diameter and height before confirming orders. Incorrect head dimensions will collide with nearby parts and block assembly.

Nylon patch for vibration heavy assemblies

Continuous vibration slowly loosens standard threads over time. For moving assemblies, we can apply a nylon patch onto screw threads.

This nylon layer creates friction between threads. It stops unwanted loosening when equipment runs. This modification is widely used for automotive hardware and moving linkage structures.

Custom fabrication for non-standard specs

Many mechanical projects cannot rely only on standard catalog sizes. We adjust shoulder length, step diameter, head profile and thread size based on requests.

When sending drawings, list all key specs clearly: shoulder diameter with tolerance, effective shoulder length, thread size, head dimensions, material grade, surface treatment, hardness, plus load type. Also tell us whether this piece acts as static spacer, sliding pin or rotating pivot.

Clear specs help us avoid bad samples. We will make pre-production samples for real workpiece testing before mass production.
